City on the Sea

Description

Our lands are wasted, our homeland is no more.
We gave up our freedom, all the rights we adore.
We sacrificed our living and all that we fought for,
Only to face a foe we could no longer ignore.

We fled without glory to these oceans unexplored,
Riding the waves on a city with all our souls aboard.
All our minds were set to this one seabound accord,
Believing that at last our lives would be our reward.

A hundred years ago we set sail from that shore,
Fleeing from the bombs of a century of war.
It was here that we ran into a foe stronger than all before:
A mighty storm that bled us from steel to the ocean floor.

I love the idea of mixing ships with other sorts of odd things and I wanted to make a floating city for some time, so this was my opportunity to do so. This was given as a Christmas gift for my brother (Luke) and his wife (Sherry).

The poem is my own work.

Not only is the image itself great, but, the poem is absolutely stunning! A brilliant verse I would compare to Lord Byron's "Apostrophe to the Ocean!"
